I recently received one of those “all to good to be true” letters in the mail.

I have to admit, they got me curious enough to open it by hand addressing the envelope.

Upon opening it, I found out that I was the lucky recipient of an award!  Two round trip airline tickets!  Congrats to me!  Reading a bit further, I even found out that this was my last notice – apparently they had attempted to contact me previously…

Yes!  I just need to call (214)-932-0716 and I can receive my winnings!  Hell, even Amy Yates personally signed the letter; it must be legit!  A quick glance at their website and Google search surprisingly didn’t turn up much information on this company.  I fell upon another of their shell companies: “Lambert Steel” which has oddly familiar scamsite – also looks like they are associated with CVI Travel.

From what I can tell, the letters are often postmarked from AZ, NY, NJ, FL, TX or CA – but never a return address.  Who signs the letter varies; at the very least between my beloved Amy Yates and Julie Harris.  The existing phone numbers associated with the scam are:

973-302-9053

214-932-0716

302-365-8228

480-281-0118

480-567-1642

732-676-4053

303-242-3511

And I’m sure many many more.  Do not respond to these letters if you get one – they will try to reach you numerous times.

Anyone else have information about this slime-ball “company”?

UPDATE 7/15: The only action I can see taking against this company is filing a report at the BBB.  Any other suggestions that don’t involve TP-ing Amy Yates house?

UPDATE 7/22: Legal threats made to me via Facebook from Amy Yates “herself”!  Post also contains updated list of phone numbers used from people in this comment thread.

UPDATE 7/24: Thanks to commenter “Bart” for finding a couple other names they go under!  Avoid Spencer Burns, Donovan Rich, and Hammond Reed (although this one appears to have lapsed the domain registration).  It also appears that they have gotten our contact info via job sites such as Monster and Career Builder.

UPDATE 8/8: One more company name to add to the list: Bradley Tate.  If you have lost track of all the names this company uses, we are up to at least 6.  Bradley Tate, Spencer Burns, Hammond Reed, Donovan Rich, Lambert Steel, and Watson Brooks; all having the exact same website sending out the same letters with the same letterhead but different shell company name.  The sites tend to go dormant quickly once the word is out that its the same scamming company.

Here is the hand signed letter for my “winnings”:

Yeah, they are free – you just have to buy this $1000 product!

Pat on 14 July, 2009 at 3:27 pm #

Funny – I received the same letter with the same dates, but Amy had a different signature!

kevin on 14 July, 2009 at 6:33 pm #

Hooray! I too have an identical letter from Watson Brooks, and must respond no later than July 15th. Amazingly, Amy Yates’ signature is completely different from the one on your letter. It’s probably due to jet lag. She used a Dallas area code in your letter dated July 6, a Delaware area code in my letter dated July 6, and mailed them all off from Phoenix Arizona on July 10. Well, I gotta go make a phone call. Can’t have the rest of you chumps claiming my award!

Cliff on 14 July, 2009 at 7:25 pm #

Same letter, different phone – 302 area code and different signature by Amy…

Robert on 14 July, 2009 at 8:08 pm #

Too funny! Got the same letter, same name, but different signature. I wonder how many “Amy Yates” work for this company?

brah.john on 14 July, 2009 at 8:50 pm #

It seems like this sort of operation should be illegal – or at least there should be a way to report the companies.

Has anyone actually followed through on it? From what I can tell searching the web, it sounds like they want to give out “tours” of their company.

Modern day timeshare scam? Something else?

edqin on 15 July, 2009 at 6:45 am #

Yup, same everything but the Amy Yates signature is different and the central NJ phone differs by last digit: 732-676-4052. I’ll notify the BBB.

ThomNJ on 16 July, 2009 at 12:21 pm #

I just got one with the NJ phone number. I will do some investigation and then I am forwarding all of it to the NJ AG. I did this also for an auto warranty scam out of St. Louis.

HHman on 18 July, 2009 at 7:16 am #

Like all before me, I also received this letter in Jersey. It indicated that I must respond by July 22nd, 2009. The Yates sigature is diffenent and the call back # listed is 732-676-4052. Post marked from Phoenix. I am so thankful that everything I needed to know aout Watson-Brooks was located on BrahBlog.com – That saved me the agony of making the mistake of calling these slicksters to listen to their spill & attempt to possibly push a CON on me and my family. Big hand to brahblog & keep up the good work. An informed blog is worth bookmarking…

Tom K on 19 July, 2009 at 12:24 pm #

I received exact same letter with different signature. Dont get scammed. They will loop you into something else and you end up paying for a whole lot more. There is NOTHING free in this world.

4kids2y2x on 19 July, 2009 at 7:50 pm #

I just received the same letter. Same Amy Yates but a different signature. Sent from Arizona with a colorado telephone number 303-209-4159.

Guess I will notify the BBB on this one

Bigdog on 19 July, 2009 at 10:04 pm #

yesh. i got the same identical letter july 15 respond by free airplane tickets blah, blah, blah… Hand written addressed to my house, no return address. BS i’m sure…

Bulldogmom55 on 20 July, 2009 at 9:38 am #

Got the same letter. Called and they told me I was so lucky( How do You feel?) I was asked… My question was how much do i have to pay? oh no just the tax when you book your trip…Then I looked them up right after the call and then I saw all of the other stories….
I hate scams…….

JC NJ on 20 July, 2009 at 10:09 am #

I received the letter with the phone nummber 732-481-4573. Amy’s signature is different. I will report them to the BBB!

Tom on 20 July, 2009 at 11:36 am #

Received same letter with a FL number 407-358-6163……..TOTAL SCAM….I am reporting them TOO….BBB

Howie in TX on 20 July, 2009 at 12:56 pm #

I just got my Amy Yates letter in the mail today. She must beam from office to office to sign all these letter!! I’m in Texas…phone # in the letter is 210-301-0087. I’m pretty good at spotting scams. This one is right on the line.

NC on 20 July, 2009 at 2:37 pm #

well lucky me!! I just received mine too..this kind of scam has been around a while I think. Mine is the same as the other person in Tx.

Bud on 20 July, 2009 at 3:31 pm #

I just got a wonderful from Amy Yates at Watson Brooks, which I must reply to by 7/23/2009. It seems they tried to contact me several times … strange since I have call waiting etc, and I have no calls recorded. I need to call 302-526-5219 to get my round trip airline tickets. I’m so lucky! I was be living good to get such an award. Damn, I ripped it up and threw it away … oh well, maybe they’ll contact me again.

Jack on 20 July, 2009 at 3:37 pm #

I’m in PA, the phone # is 302-526-5000 (Delaware). Amy has a different signature. I have to respond by 7/22. Fat chance of that happening.

Ron on 20 July, 2009 at 4:25 pm #

Hey – my Amy signature is completely different too. How many VP Amys are there? I think my VP Amy not only signed the letter but personally addressed my envelope too, nice personal touch. I suspect VP Amy is making about $5.00/hour. Interestingly the post mark on the envelope is 15 June 2009 out of Phoenix, AZ but my letter is dated July 14, 2009. They have tried to contact me “…..several times without success. This is our last attempt” Would like to write more about this but I have to call 303-209-4159 (thankfully a local call in Colorado). They have given me until the 23rd to respond but I am not taking any chances. As soon as I talk with VP Amy I’ll get my 2 roundtrip airline tickets. I was born in the dark but it was not last night.

Felicia on 20 July, 2009 at 6:22 pm #

I received the same letter! I don’t understand what they are trying to gain through these scams? I don’t know anyone who’s fallen for them?

Mark on 20 July, 2009 at 6:27 pm #

I just spoke at length with “Rick ” I live in Dallas Andy letter had a ft worth number I’m having them set up
“an appt” at their Dallas “office” 20 years of litigating fraud cases. This could be fun I’ll let u guys know how it goes

rose on 20 July, 2009 at 8:28 pm #

Recieved the same letter different signature for July 23rd 2009 Phone number 302-526-5219 ????? Scam Scam Scam ecomomic times being what they are shame on you. Hope you meet Mr.District Attorney soon

Jim on 21 July, 2009 at 7:59 am #

Received a letter on 07/17/09. Phone number to call 302-526-5000. Same scam

J Camp on 21 July, 2009 at 8:59 am #

I received the same exact letter. They got my name through Career Builder or Monster because that is the only place I’ve used my full name and that’s how the letter was addressed.

Judy on 21 July, 2009 at 10:16 am #

Received letter yesterday. I’m in Dallas area and it’s a Dallas area code. Same signature as John’s though I don’t know if it matters. Wonder what list(s) they’re buying or using – clearly, the individual addressing without a return address gets the letters opened, but it screams “scam.” Will be interesting to hear what you suss out, Mark.

Steve on 21 July, 2009 at 12:14 pm #

I don’t get it either. What could they possibly gain from this. Just a waste of time and resources.

robert elliott on 21 July, 2009 at 12:36 pm #

I too got a letter with a different amy signature. They must be luring you in to try and sell you a bridge somewhere. It stated a round trip ticket worth “up to” $1400.00. What do you want to bet it would turn out to be worth $0 – $50 and you would not receive it until you were completely humiliated by one of their pressure sales people.

Texas Henry on 21 July, 2009 at 2:09 pm #

Oh no I better hurry and respond before July 22nd, after all that is my last chance. Funny thing, the Amy signature on my letter is quite different then the one above.

Tad H on 21 July, 2009 at 2:56 pm #

Amy sure gets around! different signature here in Texas, too. add 210-301-0087 to your list as well. “up to” $1400.00. Sounds like a bad South Park episode waiting to happen.

Rob S on 21 July, 2009 at 4:52 pm #

I got the same one with the DE number, but the postal stamp was from AZ. I had a series of calls last week from a 727 number, I wonder if that was them.

Ralph G on 21 July, 2009 at 8:35 pm #

Got one just today. From Amy Yates 480 number.

John on 21 July, 2009 at 10:13 pm #

I also got the letter today. July 22 deadline. 214 number previously listed. I am also a recent job hunter, and my guess is Monster.com sold them the list of addresses. Any other common thread?

Denver Tim on 21 July, 2009 at 11:01 pm #

I think its genius, we start a website and sell advertising space. Then send out letters like this for trips, awards, other Free $tuff. Then everyone goes to the site to blog. We win no matter what; if people get scammed or people blog about not getting scammed. Anyone in? Go to http://www.dontgetscammed.com and learn what Amy and others know. You can use your powers for good or evil.

Texas Adam on 22 July, 2009 at 6:49 am #

Got to the 23rd to call. Phone number listed now is 817-786-3340.

Yankee in Texas on 22 July, 2009 at 7:21 am #

Same letter, same Amy Yates, totally different signature.

Arizona Girl on 22 July, 2009 at 5:34 pm #

Got a letter from Amy Yates, but its a completely different signature that is on your letter!

Kelley on 22 July, 2009 at 7:09 pm #

My husband called them.. We went down.. was a company they said they didn’t need any credit cards just a form of ID to get the tickets and listen to them.. When we got down there they said we need a major credit card we told them we dont use credit cards and they said they would not allow us to sit in the meeting.. when we called to complain they sent us to many people, no one would help us, they hung up on us and they just kept telling us to refer someone to them with a credit card and we would get the tickets.. Its a scam… DONT CALL THEM… They use the credit card to charge for 1/2 the tickets.. you are supost to get for free.. no telling what else they charge you for…

I just filled out a mail fraud complaint form with the USPS after reading the postings on this site. I would encourage anyone else who has received the letter to do the same. Here’s the link: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx

Yippeee I won just got my letter last chance have to call my the end July. Amy Yates is the winner on my letter I got a DE number. Love the Internet to see about these scams

I got the same letter, but Amy’s signature is different. Too bad. I could really use some free tickets. :)

Anonymous on 24 July, 2009 at 8:19 am #

I got the same letter, based in NJ… with a deadline of 7/29 – bastards!

Ft Worth, Tx - Stan on 24 July, 2009 at 10:52 am #

Received my letter as well – on the day that I was supposed to respond by. Different signature than the one posted above. I called and asked for Amy Yates and was told that she couldn’t come to the phone. How convenient!!
Any company that would hide behind a proxy server company (Domainsbyproxy)so that no one could trace them down, is scamming! Run away!!

Timmy on 24 July, 2009 at 11:49 am #

Yep same letter in CO. 303#. BUT signed by Julie Harris who is also the VP! They must be expanding already.

Bart on 24 July, 2009 at 3:28 pm #

Same Letter, different signature, different phone number. Besides Waton Brooks and Lambert Steel, yhey have Hammond Reed, Spenser Burns and Donovan Rich. All use same website with different headers. Be Careful.

Hackensack, MN on 25 July, 2009 at 5:13 pm #

I am so bummed. My letter was forwarded from our Phoenix home to our summer family cabin in northern Minnesota and it arrived a day after I was to call. Guess I missed out on this wonderful offer.

Patrick on 26 July, 2009 at 8:15 am #

Yes, we all got the letter and yes, we are all suspicious, but not one of us has anything solid to go by against this company. The BBB has no info yet about them; too new I suppose. Filing a mail fraud complaint might be appropriate, but none of us have been hooked yet so we have nothing to complain about yet. I filled complaint anyway stating I lost $0, maybe it will help. https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx

Stephen on 26 July, 2009 at 11:32 am #

Whoohoo! Opened my mail this morning to find I’m a winner too! Seems like a company with so much money to “award” would have a better website… Looks like the Web is working to thwart scammers like these, but thanks to John’s blog post.

Tom on 27 July, 2009 at 3:05 pm #

Got letter today, May drive down to their offices tomorrow to check out that hot chick Amy. BTW, I have never used any of the career/job hunt sites, but also in the mail today I got a new debit card from Bank of America because of info being compromised at an undiclosed thrid party location. Any connection? Who knows, maybe I’ll ask Amy that tomorrow.

Nicole on 27 July, 2009 at 3:55 pm #

Same story here from Phoenix! I think my letter got stuck to someone else’s though as there is an imprint on my envelope in the same blue pen of the next victim about to get one. I hope “Carlos” finds this blog.

Mike on 27 July, 2009 at 4:21 pm #

Thanks brah, nevah knew there could be so many Amy Yates…key tip of for me in this letter was the word “qualified” for free tickets. Right in the rubbish!

JJ on 27 July, 2009 at 6:52 pm #

Ha, same letter word for word, except Any Yates signature is different(I guess anyone signs her name) and the phone number is 210-301-0087 I’m in San Antonio TX. Of course this is a scam. First of all no return address on envelope and no return address on letter and Amy Yates is a ficticious name. In the trash! Thanks for this website.

TroggIII on 27 July, 2009 at 7:44 pm #

Received same letter – obvious different signature with same Amy Yates name and here is the contact phone number for me to call — 214-932-0723 postmarked from phoenix, az 85026 – and the hand written address on the front and the signature block – look like handwritting but if you look closely it is generated by a word processing program…. so obviously a mass-mailing with intent to deceive scam going on.. here is my comments that I sent to the Post office fraud investigation… Good Work on this blog brah.blog…. Keep it up… and let those A**holes keep harassing you and we will file a lawsuit together to take care of and extinguish this kind of wrongdoing that is being allowed… Thanks again!!!
——-
Received letter in the mail stating this was their last attempt to reach me. This letter was their last attempt – for me to claim the award that I had qualified for 2 roundtrip airline tickets -Congrats upt to 1,400.00 value —
Funny thing is that apparently there are numerous letters from different cities in the us that are being sent to us citizens with the same line with different contact phone numbers, with different signatures by the SAME Amy Yates – Vice President, Travel Awards Division -
I received this letter – so why would i have not gotten the numerous attempts of them trying to get in touch with me — hmmm… liars… I would say….
You call to speak to Amy Yates and it just so happens that she is not in the office and won’t be in for a week… So, I left my name and number and have asked that this message get to Amy and have her contact me at her conveinence….
Still waiting…..
Obviously this is a scam and should be investigated for fraund amongst other laws this company is breaking…. Thanks – T

My husband just got his letter today from Amy, DE PH#, we are in NJ — my husband does not have facebook, did not post anything on Monster or Career Builder so I don’t think the trail is coming from there??

Gotta luv the internet!!

Joan on 29 July, 2009 at 9:56 am #

I received the same letter yesterday with a diff. # to call of 407-358-6163. Thanks to all for posting this information. I am checking them out with Florida BBB too.

Jess on 29 July, 2009 at 12:04 pm #

Have any of you people even attended their presentation before bashing this company’s name? Everyone is so quick to jump to a conclusion off of one persons opinion! If we all did that, no companies like Visa, or Direct TV, or McDonald’s (which all have extreme customer complaints) would be in business!! I received my letter, called, and everything seems legit, so I set up an appointment. I will let you skeptic people know how it goes…

Jess on 29 July, 2009 at 12:04 pm #

I also posted this on the other link…

EBinAZ on 29 July, 2009 at 10:32 pm #

Jess (or Amy?), if it was legit, why the different signatures? Also, who said anything about a presentation?

Logan on 30 July, 2009 at 8:58 am #

Amy is a busy girls. She sent ,me a letter too. I called and spoke with the rep, she was not pushy at all but did try to get me to commit to a time since they were filling up fast! If I had the time I would go down there to mess with them but life is too short to deal with they people. As my grandpa always said “Son there anint nothing in this life that is free!” That includes Govt Healthcare!!!!!!

brah.john on 30 July, 2009 at 8:40 pm #

Yeah…I’m gonna have to go ahead and claim that “Jess” is Amy Yates or works for this company… who else would defend these sorts of actions for “free” prizes?

Mike on 31 July, 2009 at 1:31 pm #

Same thing, letter from “Amy”, tried to contact several times, last chance etc, etc. Called DE number out of curiosity and made appointment. They said needed “major credit card” for ID purposes. !!!! ????. “Sorry, dont have one.” Pause, checked with someone else then said check was OK. For ID !!??.
Got confirming e-mail for an appointment with SRT Vacations. Did web search and only found one reference to SRT Vacations, listed as company in Germantown MD with one employee and annual sales of $200,000.
Responded that I won’t be able to attend and remove me from any records.
