I got home today to find I had a new Facebook message from one Amy Yates.  My first thought was “damn… why does that name sound so familiar?”

I quickly remembered who Amy Yates is – she is the teleporting-signature changing VP of Watson Brooks!  Able to personally sign thousands of letters all postmarked from different locations!

I open the message up to find legal threats against my post on their letter they sent to me…

Scam_Legal_FB_Msg

Wow – serving me a legal notice on Facebook?  That is soooo Web 2.0.

In the spirit of the many signature of Amy Yates, her Facebook profile picture looks suspiciously like a stock photograph:

Amy could be in a catalog somewhere!  I did a quick image search for a “business woman”, but couldn’t track down the source image of this photo – anyone out there have Sherlock-Holmes tracking skills for stock photography?  I would really love to find it…

Amy Yates "Herself"

I’m tempted to add Miss “Multiple Signature Personality” Amy Yates as my friend and see what she does.  Anyways, in the spirit of my last post on Watson Brooks, I’m updating the list of phone numbers they use based on your comments.  It amazes me that a “legitimate” company would need so many phone numbers for their valuable prize giveaways…

My husband asked me to Google a letter he received yesterday. Hand written address, with no return address. You guessed it, signed by Amy Yates!
Letterhead is from Watson Brooks. Says, “I am pleased to inform you that you have qualified for an award of 2 roundtrip airline tickets. Congratulations.
………(jadda jadda)…
Please call me today at (302) 526-500)
Sincerely,
Amy Yates
Vice President
Travel Awards Division”

Humm… where do I want to go? ha ha ha

Good luck to you! I am on Facebook too.
Have a Great Day!
Diana

John, thank you for your post. I just recieved one of the prize give-away letters and wondered where it came from. That’s why I love the internet. Anyway, that was a cheap way for them to threaten you, cheap in that they didn’t have to hire an attorney. They must be buying a list from Facebook.

brah.john on 26 July, 2009 at 9:35 pm #

While Facebook may not be a saint in terms of keeping your info private, if Facebook starts selling contact info like that, we are all doomed!

Char on 27 July, 2009 at 3:54 pm #

We also received a letter from Amy at Watson Brooks. We googled the company, saw the blog and dumped the letter in the trash. The phone # they told us to call is on the list posted.

John on 27 July, 2009 at 4:06 pm #

My wife got this same letter from Amy today so we googled “watson brooks” and found this post. Phone number on the letter is 817-786-3340.

That email is hilarious, how about I fiercely get them on sending me this crap!

JJ on 27 July, 2009 at 7:26 pm #

There letter is not even a professional letter, how can anyone think that they are for real? No forwarding address, no department, extension, envelope written in long hand. This goes in the trash. Hey John Brah GOOD JOB! and good luck!

TroggIII on 27 July, 2009 at 7:51 pm #

Did you run down to your local lawyer and seek immediately legal counsel — or did you do what they did… send a message to their facebook account and say “bite me” — then report their facebook account for inappropriate behavior and violation of facebooks terms of service… I hope you did the latter – especially reporting them to facebook!! – Thanks again for this informative blog and keep up the important TRUTH of this apparently UNTRUTHFUL BULLYING COMPANY!!! .. YOU ROCK!!!

Amy wants me to call her in San Antonio; letter arrived today. Thanks for starting the string.

Got one of those ‘pleased to inform you’ letters yesterday. Thanks so much for hosting this blog–It saved us a lot of grief. Will just insert in the circular file.

Rich on 28 July, 2009 at 7:42 am #

Got the same letter. Says they’ve been trying to contact me. Yeah right! Well the letter made good shredder feed.

Sam on 28 July, 2009 at 9:51 am #

Got the same letter from same Amy yesterday with the Orlando phone number. If indeed they have been calling me (we’re on the FTC’s Do Not Call list), penalties are up to $11,000 per violation. Have been getting regular calls from “800 number” with no other info. I don’t answer, but may call the Orlando # to see what the spiel is…..

everma on 28 July, 2009 at 2:41 pm #

My husband got the exact letter today and thanks to your blog, I can be reassured I did not (no surprise) win anything. Their number on the letter 214-932-0723.

Jess on 29 July, 2009 at 11:44 am #

Have any of you people even attended their presentation before bashing this company’s name? Everyone is so quick to jump to a conclusion off of one persons opinion! If we all did that, no companies like Visa, or Direct TV, or McDonald’s (which all have extreme customer complaints) would be in business!! I received my letter, called, and everything seems legit, so I set up an appointment. I will let you skeptic people know how it goes…

brah.john on 30 July, 2009 at 8:43 pm #

Hi Jess (or is it “Amy”?) Thanks for the comment – but I highly doubt this is “something for nothing”

JohnK on 1 August, 2009 at 9:28 am #

I got the same letter this week. It was postmarked from Phoenix. They said they tried to contact us,but had no answer. Our caller id has no record of 817-786-3340. We get a bunch of unknown numbers, but if they were legit, they should display their name and leave a message instead of being deceiving. They also had a deadline of Thurs, July 30th.

I found this web site for Amy Yates, kinda looks like her ?? http://www.facebook.com/people/Amy-Yates/1272833701.

JohnK on 1 August, 2009 at 10:13 am #

I went to switchboard.com and did a reverse search for (817) 786-3340. Turns out it is coming from Euless,Texas.

Got a letter identical to yours today, with three exceptions; the company name is “Bradley Tate,” it was signed by “Sandra Wallace,” and the phone number was (302) 703-3112. The logo on the letterhead, as well as the body of the letter are identical. Thanks for posting this!

Hurray for the internet – just got home after being rear-ended on the way (ouch) and thought my luck had changed with this nice Travel Award in the mailbox from Bradley Tate (Sandra Wallace, a Mobile, AL number, Phoenix postmark) but alas, my suspicions were correct and it is not legit. I will now go look for the Advil.

Moi on 10 August, 2009 at 5:23 pm #

I received mine today. You can update your number list. 817 786 3338.

Something has to be done…I received that same crappy letter from “Sandra Wallace”, and when I called she wasnt available. I demanded to be put into her voicebox…and got connected to a general mailbox. I do not feel comfortable with this knowning my newest address and phone number. The Delaware BBB said that this isn’t their department…so I am going to contact the Atty Generals Office. The more that do the same the better.
